Enrique Mazzola - the mystery of a gesture

Enrique Mazzola has worked with great singers, orchestras and musicians all over the world.

But why did he become a conductor?

Was there some incident in his past that helped him decide?

There was. The documentary short film deals with a childhood experience of world-renowned conductor Enrique Mazzola that gave the starting point for him to become a conductor.

As a small boy, Enrique Mazzola sang in the children‘s choir at La Scala in Milan.

One day he was chosen as a soloist by famous conductor Claudio Abbado to sing the children‘s part at the end of Alban Berg‘s “Wozzeck“ opera. As he always had to wait nearly till the end of the opera behind the stage, he looked for something to distract himself.

Luckily, there were small monitors behind the stage where he could watch what was going on on stage. Unfortunately, the quality of the image was so bad that he only saw the black and white dress of the conductor and could only distinguish him because of the movement of his arms.

But this movements fascinated the young boy and he decided to become a conductor as well.
